Magento 2 SEO for Products, Categories and Catalog
In this article we will take a look at essential Magento 2 SEO for products, categories and catalogue, so that the customers to find your store on Google.

Hey you programmer, ok? This is the second part about Magento 2 SEO here on the blog, in the first we saw general settings, now we are going to look at catalog specifics.
First let’s check how to improve category SEO, go to the admin side menu and access:
Stores | Configuration | Catalog | Catalog | Search Engine Optimization
Here we will have several options that we can explore in favor of Search Engine Optimization, let’s see each one of them:
- Popular search themes: allows pages to display the most popular search results, mark as Yes;
- Product URL Suffix: Suffix added to product URLs;
- Category URL Suffix: Suffix added to category URLs;
Use Categories Path for Product URLs: Include the category name in the products URL;
Create Permanent Redirect for URLs if URL Key is Changed: Create a redirect in the URL Rewrite automatically if a URL has been changed so as not to lose traffic from the old one;
Page Title Separator: page title separator;
Use Canonical Link Meta Tag For Categories: Index only one category URL, so there is no duplication of content;
Use Canonical Link Meta Tag For Products: same thing as the previous topic, but for products;
Magento Sitemap Manager
Magento can automatically generate the sitemap in XML for us, but we need to set this in the settings
Go to Stores | Configuration | Catalog | XML Sitemap and you will have a range of settings around the XML that will be generated
In the Generation Settings tab we can define if the file will be generated automatically, and the time of this action
We can also define some specificities of CMS Pages, Products and Categories
As well as maximum file size in Sitemap File Limits
And in Search Engine Submission Settings we can enable the submission of robots.txt, which informs what bots should see in the e-commerce
How to enter Google Analytics tracking code
In Magento 1 it was a big mess to insert tracking codes, now in Magento 2 there is a specific place for that
And it will only work when the site is on some host, not having to worry about local servers
Go to Stores | Configuration | Sales | Google API here you can configure Analytics and AdWords
Optimizing SEO for Magento 2 Pages
We can improve the SEO of Magento CMS pages, for that go to Content | Pages and choose the page
In the Search Engine Optimization tab you can enter different data that will rank the page better
These data are: URL key, Meta Title, Meta Keywords and Meta Description
Remembering that the content of the page must be aligned with the contents of the Meta fields
Product SEO
Another possibility, perhaps the most interesting, is the SEO for products that is also customizable
Go to Catalog | Products and select the product
Again in the Search Engine Optimization tab we can define the Meta parameters that are extremely important for the organic traffic of products on Google
And of course you can change these settings for each product individually.
Category SEO
We can also boost the SEO of Magento 2 Category Pages
Go to Catalog | Categories and select the category
Again, in the Search Engine Optimization tab, Magento 2 gives us the possibility to change the Meta parameters to favor the SEO of the categories
Conclusion
In this article we saw various SEO settings such as: configuring Analytics and AdWords
And also more targeted CMS, Category and Products pages
